With all the pre-show Instagramming of the Wizard of Oz-like mirrored venue, Dior certainly lived up to its hype, delivering a Spring/Summer 2016 haute couture collection that was spontaneous and contemporary, yet rooted in Old World Parisien charm and Christian Dior's star-studded superstition.
A form of sophisticated sensuality is translated into waves of graceful movement, volumized fabrics and bare shoulders and necklines. The Dior woman is femininity in motion, and every movement conveys confidence: confident are the structured silhouettes seen in minimalistic blazers and waist-defining dresses and tops; confident are the starry embellishments, emblazoned uniformly across black, white and navy; confident are the steps the Dior woman takes in black heels cut below the ankle and decorated with big, exaggerated bows. These visions of steadfast feminism are tied together by knits stitched like lace, lily-of-the-valley embroidery assembled in such a way that it seems to transform into a panther motif, and unexpected contrasts of texture and cut.
The Dior woman, harboring such extensive power and energy within, expresses her confidence freely and without fuss.
