Dion Lee Pre-Fall 2016
Our cold weather essentials - fur and big coats are no exception to Dion Lee’s new pre-fall collection. The Australian designer stays true to his roots, not forgetting that the Southern hemisphere is taking off layers while we pile them on; the collection covers both summer and fall designs.
Dion Lee maintains his signature structured pieces and scale-like designs that transcend all seasons. The fashion industry seems to be taking a step towards practicality, which for the average human, is definitely a plus. We are now moving away from extremely fitted, figure-hugging designs, as is also evident at Elizabeth & James, which allow for more movement and comfort. The slightly masculine silhouettes of clean-cut lines and dark, neutral colours seem to evoke a sense of gender neutrality. Perhaps then, per Ed Sheeran, instead of “all your curves and all your edges”, society will focus more on our edges?
Lee’s versatile choice of color makes his designs easy to wear, particularly as statement pieces with their play on textures; a proven essential for the minimalists. The world’s favorite fall color, maroon, makes a debut and might even have stolen the show. The full fur coat paired with any basic item in your closet is bound to give you several double-takes on the streets. Combine a summer and a fall piece, an effortless transition from day to night, functionality is what is in this season.
