As is the trend with many other designers, Elie Saab dropped pieces that hinted at an increased focus for a younger audience. This reach began back in his Spring 2016 collection, which showcased much shorter lengths and bolder stripes, and of course both Gigi and Kendall walked the show. But for pre-all, Saab introduced a Wellington boot, something that has not been associated with the history of the house in the past decade. Flanked with embroidery and metallic sequins, though, these boots were made in true Elie Saab DNA.
Admittedly, this collection, even with its older sibling in Spring, is still foreign ground for many of Saab's long-time fans, who will have to find comfort in a longer pink dress, plush fur coat and dresses and jackets with floral motifs. In terms of Saab's goal to reach younger fans, he's got it down. The feminine, home-schooled Saab woman came back as a younger, rock-and-roll loving, almost rebellious girl. Knotted belts and exaggerated jewelry is paired with leather fringe and, in true Saab fashion, lace. Black leather cut-out flats with gold metallic heels will prove to be popular, and may very well become many girls' first Saab purchase. Regardless of the shorter lengths and at times more fitted tailoring, the Elie Saab woman remains effortlessly cool and ready for any occasion.
