Elizabeth and James Pre-Fall 2016
As is customary with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's contemporary, more youthful line Elizabeth and James, simplicity is key. This collection speaks volumes for the brand's future, as all design and production teams have now moved in-house. Naturally, this means that the Olsens now have a greater role in creative direction for the brand and in creating the E&J woman.
A simple, soft palette comprising of comfortable separates takes the brand a small step away from the previously well-received collections of dresses and skirts. The E&J woman seems to have grown past a phase of body-hugging clothes to more loose-fitted, comfortable attire, which, in terms of practicality, is definitely a win. Pair the plush sweaters with your favorite pair of jeans, or layer on a blush pink jacket and blazer. Spice things up a bit with one of the edgier leather jackets, which can easily go with any look in the Fall. Wide-leg pants continue to trend in 2016, and it's inevitable that for the Olsens, comfort is key. E&J fans may miss the high collars and form-flattering pieces from before, but familiarity can still be seen in a maxi dress, an oversized burgundy sweater and a black slip sweater dress. Experimentation is partly what the Olsens are doing with this collection, and perhaps it's also an encouragement for E&J shoppers to experiment, too.
